Prokofiev with Peter Jablonski
Göteborgs Konserthus, Gothenburg
Under the baton of Finnish conductor Jukka-Pekka Saraste, works from two eras are performed: Magnus Lindberg's collage Jubilees opens the evening - a piece originally written as a birthday gift and composed of several short sections.
Pianist Peter Jablonski then performs Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 5, a rhythmically inventive concerto in five short movements. Prokofiev is perhaps best known today for the music from Romeo and Juliet, but was one of the most prominent composers of the 20th century.
After the intermission comes Beethoven's Third Symphony, Eroica - a work Beethoven himself described as "greater than all previous" and which is generally regarded as a breakthrough for Romanticism.
An introduction is held in the Grand Hall one hour before the concert, lasts approximately 30 minutes and is included in the ticket price. Free seating applies during the introduction.
