Guest Performance: Cancer Dance
Teater Halland Stora Scen, Varberg
Choreographer Nadja Hjorton has created a solo that moves from the intimate to the grand. CANCER DANCE is her own story - when she turned 40, she became a theatre director and was diagnosed with breast cancer. The performance begins with that time: a changing body, fear, loss of control, and cells multiplying out of control.
But also with everything that continued to exist: her children, friends, TikTok dances in the living room, and unexpected moments of joy in the midst of chaos. CANCER DANCE is neither a tearful tale nor a heroic saga - it is the performance Nadja herself would have wanted to see when she was ill. A solo with dark humour, physicality, and warmth.
Music by artist and composer Britta Persson. Costumes by Daniel Åkerström Steen and scenography by Chrisander Brun, created to depict the body's inner world in a playful and surrealist way. Performance length: 1 hour.
