Beethoven's Seventh — Konsertsalen, Malmö

The programme moves between festivity and visual art. When Brahms was commissioned to compose something ceremonial for the University of Breslau, he chose - to the patron's surprise - student drinking songs as his themes. The ingeniously witty Academic Festival Overture became a success, of course. Beethoven is also in festive spirits in Symphony No. 7, and conductor Delyana Lazarova leads the orchestra through spirited dance rhythms and surprising flourishes.

Anna Clyne's Abstractions forms the evening's third work. Clyne has achieved major international recognition with a shimmering sound palette often created in symbiosis with visual art - and in Abstractions she has translated five artworks into instrumental gestures and orchestral textures.
