Chamber Concert #3

Staffan Rejle plays second violin in the Malmö Symphony Orchestra by day, but he is also a composer. At the season's third chamber concert, five of his orchestra colleagues will perform his Woodwind Quintet, a woodwind quintet from 2025.

Jacques Ibert served in the French navy during the First World War and won the Prix de Rome composition competition in 1919. During the 1920s he established himself as a composer, and his charming Cinq Pièces en trio from 1935 was written for Trio d'Anches de Paris.

André Jolivet was a revolutionary who in time became part of the establishment. His piece Mana from 1935 made a splash in the Parisian music scene, and together with Olivier Messiaen and others he founded the influential avant-garde group La Jeune France - whose shared aesthetic was characterized by the unsungable, style incantatoire. Jolivet died in 1971 and his music disappeared from the repertoire for a long time, but now appears ready to be revived.
