Jan Garbarek featuring Trilok Gurtu — Konsertsalen, Malmö

After a Jan Garbarek concert at Royal Festival Hall in London, critic Sarah Chaplin wrote: "Now, after more than fifty years in his career, Garbarek is as close to perfection as humanly possible, and he proves himself a master of silence and tone, of both striking rhythmic figures and painfully beautiful phrases." German reviewer Wolfram Goertz experienced the same programme in Düsseldorf in 2025 and put it this way: "A cool, crystalline Norwegian, a shaman from India, a Buddha from Germany and a turbocharged Brazilian... let the world spin in its madness: the true giants remain unmoved."

Garbarek has released several albums on ECM Records that are considered milestones in jazz history - among them Belonging and My Song with Keith Jarrett, and Officium recorded with the Hilliard Ensemble. "The human voice is my ideal," says Garbarek, and his clear, purist tone has become an immediately recognizable hallmark.

The quartet features pianist Rainer Brüninghaus, Brazilian bassist Yuri Daniel, and Trilok Gurtu from India - now based in Hamburg and known as a bridge between Indian and Western musical traditions.
