Malmö Jazz Story presents: Ark Project (SE) - An Afrofuturistic Mixshow

Marcus Price (producer, DJ and beatmaster, known from Fattaru and Basutbudet) and music archivist and DJ Nathan Hamelberg have stood side by side behind the turntables for nearly twenty years. Together they form Ark Project.

The show takes its starting point in a thought experiment: in 1977, NASA launched Voyager I and II with The Golden Records on board - two records packed with music and images from humanity's history. Ark Project asks what would have happened if those records instead reflected the story of the African diaspora and the continent. Would extraterrestrials have received a more hopeful picture of us?

The answer is shaped as an afrofuturistic mixshow - "outtakes for better contact with outer space" - where jazz, techno, gospel, reggae, rhythm & blues, mambo and funk blend together into a message to outer space.

Miriam Aïda converses with the two artists before the show begins. The conversation runs from 16.00-16.30, live performance 16.30-17.30. Free entry, and Bistro Live is open for food and drinks.

*Afrofuturism is about imagining Black futures through art, culture, technology and storytelling - and combines African and Afrodiasporic experiences with science fiction to explore identity, history and alternative futures.
