Elliott Sharp is an American guitarist, composer and improviser who has been a central figure in New York's downtown avant-garde scene since the 1970s. He works primarily with electric guitar and electronics, moving freely between free improvisation and notated composition. His works include the opera Die Grösste Fuge (2021) and Port Bou (2014), a piece centred on philosopher Walter Benjamin's final hours. He has collaborated with John Zorn, Nels Cline and Merzbow, among others.
