Janne Schaffer
Legendary Swedish guitarist Janne Schaffer plays at Cirkus in Stockholm.
Janne Schaffer (born 24 September 1945 in Stockholm) is one of Sweden's most prolific guitarists and composers, active since the 1960s. He played on nearly half of ABBA's recorded catalogue - including 'Waterloo' and 'Dancing Queen' - and has credits on close to 5,000 recordings in total, alongside names such as Bob Marley, Ted Gärdestad and Toto. As a solo artist his 1973 debut went gold and topped the Swedish charts, and he has released 27 solo albums. He is also a founding member of Electric Banana Band, the beloved children's rock group formed with Lasse Åberg and Klasse Möllberg in 1980.
Schaffer released the single 'Som i en spegel' from the film Biodlaren, for which he composed the soundtrack.
The Schaffer-stipendiet scholarship (50,000 SEK), awarded annually to a young Swedish electric guitarist who also composes, opened applications for 2026 from 1 May to 19 June.
The 'My Music Story' concert tour, in which Schaffer traces his career from 1960s pop bands through ABBA and Ted Gärdestad to Electric Banana Band, was extended into 2026.
A new Electric Banana Band film, 'Filmtajm med Electric Banana Band', premiered at Folkets Hus cinemas across Sweden on 30 September 2025.
Schaffer was awarded the royal medal Litteris et Artibus for outstanding artistic contributions to Swedish musical life.
