Där och nu - Marcus Baldemar, Per Jonsson / Norrdans
Two works, two eras, one changing body
Boléro - choreography by Marcus Baldemar
Using Maurice Ravel's Boléro as a starting point, choreographer Marcus Baldemar and Norrdans explore the tension between struggle and softness. Since its premiere in 1928, the work has carried associations with discipline, repetition, and collective power - here the music transforms into a physical state. The snare drum evokes military marching and shared movement, but also resistance and endurance. Softness becomes an active choice rather than a retreat, and the work is infused with a queer perspective where norms are challenged and structures shift.
Rivers of Mercury - choreography by Per Jonsson (1998)
Per Jonsson's final work and one of the most significant in Swedish dance history. A choreography on the edge of dissolution: movements that rush, vanish, and return as memories in the body. The tempo is relentless, the precision existential.
