Description was written before the event

Outi Pieski is one of the leading Sámi artists today, with works shown at Tate Modern (2025), MARKK Hamburg (2023-24), the Venice Biennale (2019), the Gwangju Biennale (2021), the Sydney Biennale (2022), and GIBCA (2023).

In Guhte gullá, young people dance to escape the anguish of world destruction and call for help from the forgotten Sámi earth goddesses Uksáhkká, Juoksáhkká, and Sáráhkká. The work explores the loss of our connection to the earth and the ancestors resting beneath it - and the possibility of restoring contact with the sacred deep within the ground.

In Guhte gullá / Here to hear, women from different generations listen to the voices of their foremothers through dance and duodji, traditional Sámi craft. The mother-daughter relationship between Outi Pieski and Biret Haarla Pieski, Gáddjá Haarla Pieski mirrors the theme of their first collaborative artistic work. The space is filled with Tuomo Purana's electronic music and Mari Boine's joik.

The exhibition is shown in Vita kuben at Norrlandsoperan. Opening hours: Tuesday-Friday 12.00-14.00, and during performances at Norrlandsoperan.
