Merit Hemmingson

Merit Hemmingson - composer, arranger, organist and singer from Jämtland - has shaped her own musical landscape since the 1960s where jazz, groove rock and folk music converge. In autumn 2026 she embarks on a tour with her band to present the new album "Pekkos Per å Jag".

The album centres on Pekkos Per (1807-1877), a legendary figure in Swedish folk music and a constant source of inspiration for Hemmingson. She has reinterpreted parts of his song catalogue on her favourite instrument, the Hammond B3. "Pekkos Per from Bingsjö in Dalarna has always been one of the most significant names in Swedish folk music for me", she explains. "Many of his songs work in both major and minor keys, which for me is both challenging and exciting." The album was recorded at Sandkvie Studio on Gotland with Juan Romero, Sara Parkman, Mats Edén, Ola Winkler and Mattias Bärjed, produced by Anton Sundell, and released via Supertraditional Records.
