Canadian metal and progressive music artist Devin Townsend performs in Göteborg.
Devin Townsend (born May 5, 1972, New Westminster, Canada) is a singer, guitarist, songwriter, and producer who has released 30 albums across projects including Strapping Young Lad, the Devin Townsend Project, and his solo career. He broke through as the frontman of extreme metal band Strapping Young Lad in the mid-1990s and has since built a reputation for a maximalist 'wall of sound' production style that spans progressive metal, ambient, and orchestral music. His long-gestating rock opera The Moth - over a decade in the making and featuring the Noord Nederlands Orkest - was released in May 2026 and is widely regarded as the culmination of his career.
Devin Townsend released The Moth on May 29, 2026 via InsideOut Music - a 24-track orchestral rock opera over a decade in the making, featuring the Noord Nederlands Orkest, Steve Vai, and Anneke van Giersbergen.
Townsend announced the 'Metamorphosis' solo UK and European tour for autumn 2026, covering 23 dates across 10 countries including Sweden, Finland, Norway, Germany, and France.
Townsend announced an indefinite hiatus from touring in April 2025, citing personal circumstances and the demands of completing The Moth.
The Moth received its live world premiere at De Oosterpoort in Groningen, Netherlands on March 27-28, 2025, performed with a full orchestra and choir.
Townsend released the studio album PowerNerd on October 25, 2024 - an 11-track record written in just 11 days, featuring guest vocals from Hatebreed's Jamey Jasta.
