The Waterboys are a Scottish folk-rock band founded in Edinburgh in 1983 by singer-songwriter Mike Scott, the group's only constant member across four decades. Their sound has ranged from the sweeping post-punk grandeur of early albums like This Is the Sea (1985) to the Celtic-rooted warmth of Fisherman's Blues (1988), and on to the cinematic concept album Life, Death and Dennis Hopper (2025). Bob Dylan once called Scott 'the new poet laureate of rock 'n' roll', and the band's influence stretches from Ellie Goulding to Prince, both of whom covered their songs.
The Waterboys announced the release of Atlantic Rain, a 3-disc set of previously unreleased music from the Fisherman's Blues sessions, due out on 17 July 2026 on Chrysalis Records.
The Waterboys' Fisherman's Blues Revue tour for August-September 2026 was announced, featuring Steve Wickham on fiddle and Steve Earle as a guest performer, with cities including Glasgow, Oslo, Stockholm, Dublin and London.
The Waterboys announced their first Australia and New Zealand tour in over a decade, scheduled for May 2026.
The Waterboys released their sixteenth studio album Life, Death and Dennis Hopper on Sun Records, featuring guest appearances by Bruce Springsteen, Fiona Apple and Steve Earle.
