A shared love of Mozart brought Jean-Efflam Bavouzet and Gábor Takács-Nagy together and led to years of collaboration. Here they meet in a Viennese classical programme with Mozart at its heart.
His Piano Concerto No. 21 earned its nickname when Bo Widerberg used its bittersweet second movement in the film Elvira Madigan. The piece is framed by two Mozart admirers: in Mozartiana, Tchaikovsky dresses four of his idol's works in romantic garb, while Beethoven's Symphony No. 2 bears clear traces of Mozart's influence yet surprises with rhythmic effects and harmonic turns that foreshadow the music of the future.
