Violetta Takes the Bus

What happens when opera's Violetta boards a bus - seconds before she falls helplessly for Alfredo? She is dying, but now she wants to live. In this production, Violetta from Verdi's La Traviata is one of all the passengers, and as familiar places pass by outside the bus window, she sings out her pain and longing.

The opera platform SAD GIRLS creates together with Riksteatern an opera where Verdi's melodies meet a contemporary electronic soundscape. The music is newly composed by composer and arranger Joel Janson Johansen, the libretto by Sanna Strandberg Colling (who also directs and develops the concept).
