corto.alto is the Glasgow-based music project of multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer Liam Shortall, who blends jazz with hip-hop, broken beat, dub and electronic production. His 2023 debut album Bad With Names - released on New Soil - was shortlisted for the 2024 Mercury Prize and won Best Album at the Scottish Jazz Awards. Now signed to Ninja Tune, Shortall has built a following well beyond the jazz world, championed by BBC 6 Music, Gilles Peterson and festival stages from Glastonbury to Montreux.
corto.alto announced the second album SOME SMALL FORTUNE, due 4 September 2026 on Ninja Tune, featuring collaborators including Mick Jenkins, Oscar Jerome and Nigerian rapper Vector.
New single 'GO' featuring Vector was released alongside a video filmed in Lagos, Nigeria.
corto.alto shared new single 'THIEF' and announced their biggest headline tour to date.
corto.alto toured the US and Canada in spring/summer 2026, their first shows in Canada.
Shortall won Act of the Year at the Jazz FM Awards (public vote) and UK Independent Breakthrough at the AIM Awards in 2025.
