Nordic jazz trio Rymden merges jazz, progressive rock and contemporary art music into an original and exploratory sound.
Magnus Öström (born 3 May 1965 in Skultuna, Sweden) is a drummer and composer who rose to international prominence as a founding member of the Esbjörn Svensson Trio (e.s.t.) - widely regarded as the most influential European jazz band of the 2000s. After Esbjörn Svensson's death in 2008, Öström built a solo career that earned him the German Echo Jazz award and the Swedish Manifest Award, and he later co-founded the Scandinavian piano trio Rymden with Bugge Wesseltoft and Dan Berglund. In 2024 he and Berglund released e.s.t. 30, a live tribute album marking thirty years since the trio's formation.
Magnus Öström and Dan Berglund released the live album e.s.t. 30 on ACT Music on 31 May 2024, marking the 30th anniversary of e.s.t.'s formation.
Öström and Berglund performed two major anniversary concerts - at Kölner Philharmonie and at Filadelfia church in Stockholm - with four guest musicians, forming the basis of the e.s.t. 30 album.
Rymden (Öström, Bugge Wesseltoft, Dan Berglund) is scheduled to perform at the North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam in July 2026.
Rymden has announced UK tour dates for November 2026, including shows in London and Manchester.
