Steven Patrick Morrissey (born 1959, Manchester) rose to prominence as the lyricist and frontman of The Smiths, one of the most influential British guitar bands of the 1980s. He launched a solo career in 1988 and has since released 14 studio albums, known for their sharp wit, literary references and a distinctly melancholic worldview. His autobiography, published by Penguin Classics in 2013, became a number-one bestseller in the UK.
Morrissey cancelled his remaining 2025 South American and Mexican tour dates, citing 'extreme exhaustion'.
Morrissey announced a 2026 European tour ('Live Across Europe'), including dates in Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, London's The O2, France, Switzerland, Italy and Spain.
Morrissey stated that his completed album 'Bonfire of Teenagers' remains unreleased, describing it as 'the modern version of The Smiths' The Queen is Dead', and said labels fear releasing it.
Morrissey announced he had regained the rights to 'Bonfire of Teenagers' and his 2014 album 'World Peace Is None of Your Business' from Capitol Records.
Morrissey signed with Sire Records and revealed a second unreleased album titled 'You're Right, It's Time', with a September 2025 release mentioned in a Polish magazine interview.
