Placebo are a British alternative rock band formed in London in 1994 by vocalist-guitarist Brian Molko and bassist-guitarist Stefan Olsdal - the two have remained the constant core throughout the band's existence. Known for their androgynous image, dark glam-inflected sound and lyrics that tackle sexuality, mental health and drug use head-on, they have released eight studio albums, all of which reached the UK Top 20, and sold around 14 million records worldwide. Their 1998 breakthrough Without You I'm Nothing went platinum in the UK and spawned a creative partnership with David Bowie, who re-recorded the title track as a duet.
