Mnozil Brass - Strau$$

When Mnozil Brass received the commission to create a full production in honour of Johann Strauss Jr. - marking his 200th anniversary in 2025 - they eventually said yes and did what they always do: whatever feels right.

The production Strau$$ revolves around Strauss as a phenomenon. He was the first composer to mass-produce hits, hired arrangers to work faster, and understood that money lay in reproducing his sound worldwide. In doing so, he became the first to cross the boundary between "serious music" and "entertainment music". Mnozil Brass - all Austrians - have absorbed him with their mother's milk and now thoroughly expose the whole story.

In the show, Strauss is joined by a range of other composers who have managed to find their place in the borderland between artistry and commercialism. The seven virtuosos move freely among all composers with the surname Strauss (Eduard, Josef, Richard, Johann Sr. and Jr.) as well as from Bruno Mars to Maurice Ravel, from Mozart to Billy Joel.
