Forbidden love and blood revenge

The opera follows Maj-Britt, a Laestadian widow who harbours strong but forbidden feelings for her friend Sune. Three elderly women confront her and demand she end the relationship - otherwise she risks eternal damnation. What unfolds is a story of love and grief, faith and hope, life and death, and above all blood revenge. On stage we encounter four female lead roles.

Video artist Markus Öhrn directs and designs the set. He grew up with roots in Tornedalen and drew inspiration from his grandmother's final words - she who lived her entire life on the strict Christian path but on her deathbed wished she had dared to follow her own desires more. Composer Maria Lithell Flyg wrote the music, its language shaped by meänkieli intonations and rhythms. Poet David Väyrynen wrote the libretto based on Laestadian sermons.

The opera is a production by Piteå Kammaropera and is performed at Norrlandsoperan in Umeå. An introduction is held at 18:30 in the Bistro - everyone is welcome.

Ticket sales begin 11 August at 12:00. Prices: standard 350 kr, pensioner 315 kr, student 175 kr, ages 19-26 175 kr, up to 18 years 100 kr, group (minimum 10 people) 315 kr.
