Love is a circus - send in the clowns

The summer night smiles three times: for the young lovers, for the foolish, and for the old who know too much. Stephen Sondheim's musical classic is based on Ingmar Bergman's 1955 film and portrays the entanglements of love with gentle irony and musical brilliance. Old feelings reignite, new relationships blossom - and lovers prove to be just as foolish now as they were then.

Sondheim named the musical "A little night music" after Mozart's "Eine kleine Nachtmusik". It is renowned for its sophisticated music and ensemble numbers, of which "Send in the Clowns" - known through performances by Judy Collins, Frank Sinatra, and Barbra Streisand - is the most celebrated. Director Dan Turdén leads an artistic team that includes Gunilla Backman, Ola Eliasson, and Suzanne Reuter.

The production is a collaboration between Norrlandsoperan and Folkoperan. The performance is sung in Swedish with Swedish subtitles. An introduction is held in the foyer 30 minutes before the curtain, and refreshments open one hour before the start. Sign language interpretation is provided on Saturday, December 5, with interpreter Hans-Ola Stenlund.
