About

Saxon are a British heavy metal band from Barnsley, Yorkshire, formed in 1975 and one of the defining acts of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM). Their 1980 album Wheels of Steel reached No. 5 in the UK charts, and they went on to score eight UK Top 40 albums during the 1980s alone. With over 23 million records sold worldwide and 24 studio albums to their name, the band - fronted throughout by Biff Byford - remains one of the most enduring forces in heavy metal.

    Biff Byford confirmed that Saxon's 25th studio album is finished and set for release on 22 January 2027, with the first single expected in September 2026.

  • 2026-01

    Byford announced that his post-surgery CT scan came back clear six months after his bowel cancer operation, and that mixing of the 25th album was complete.

  • 2025-07

    Saxon canceled 10 European summer festival appearances - including Wacken Open Air and Summer Breeze - while Byford recovered from emergency surgery for bowel cancer.
