Debussy's La Mer

Pierre Bleuse, one of France's leading conductors, guests with Malmö Symphony Orchestra (MSO) in a concert featuring French music.

The evening opens with Paul Dukas' fanfare about a fallen angel seeking immortality, followed by Philippe Manoury's Anticipations - a piece that, in the composer's own words, plays with the listener's expectations. Béla Bartók's Piano Concerto No. 3 is performed by guest soloist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, who studied the work with Georg Solti and whose 2010 recording of Bartók's concertos was nominated for several major awards.

The programme concludes with Claude Debussy's La Mer, one of his most frequently performed works, in which the sea is depicted through constantly shifting musical images.
